http://www.actualvirtualremix.com/
A website where it strives to create a circuit where sharing & trust is the currency.
A place where people all share their stories, memories, events, experiences.
A place where we write our own history.
The website will specify reference narration, but not to provide linear-subject-author, one that is more permeable, inviting the viewer to play with narration at hand using history,
geography and identity, using different types of memory as the catalyst to activate it. There is no pretense to search for facts, for the truth. More to play with the inevitabilities of life situations. When life unfolds upon the viewer It provides the viewer a chance to act
& respond.
Some stories stay alive in collective memory, passing from mouth to mouth to the next
generations. For as long as we host them on our thought, we nourish them with our
imagination, before we pass them on, we filter them through our thoughts & feelings. Hardly ever do the small personal stories get registered in history books, they usually stay hidden in forgotten archives, dusted photographs, yellow newspapers scraps & breathe through oral narrations. Therefore the website aims to have these stories & contributions placed into an annual catalogue, archived and then printed into a book titled "In Place of".
More & more questions are raised whether our society can continue to produce and
consume the extent we have seen over the past decades. In response there have been alternative groupings & trends - such as collective housing, recycling & sharing open source movement, which all focus on sharing & economizing the common resources.
This project examines & challenges the human ability, willingness and possible obligation to share. To emphasize that we are all part of a larger context, where actions and ways of thinking has a greater impact on our world then we can ever foresee.
The website consists with a number of video works then after each video a question appears for the viewer to write his/her response. At the end of the website the viewer receives a postcard, a photograph with their written response to the website, similar to the tourist industry, when someone visits a new place, he/she marks their discovery by purchasing a postcard or object, acquiring a souvenir. Taking it home & displaying the object, the kitschy postcard has a story to tell people about their trip & how they managed to get hold of this piece. Thus, the history embedded within the website gets another layer of memory attached to it.
It is important to know that the complexity of writing your own story or response to a
particular experience, conversation or sensation does not dwell solely on the value
connotations of these postcards they only serve as its pretext. The website's duty is not to revision history but to offer a vantage point different from itself, not necessarily
de-contextualising it, but proposing an alternative narrative that can coexist with it.
The website is an ongoing project and aim to have questions and video content to evolve overtime. Calling out for proposals & art submissions from all over the world to take part.
