'Sway' is an interactive video installation designed for installation in the heart of Sydney’s shopping district, Pitt Street Mall. Its beautiful and poetic imagery of a fluctuating ocean invites viewers to reflect on their intentions. A projected image of tumbling waves will reflect the shifting movement of the pedestrians below the screen. Hidden sensors will detect when the pedestrian traffic is dense and rapid, projecting an image of turbulent water. Likewise, when the pace of the city has eased the waves mimic the soothing ebb of a tide receding out to sea.
The ocean footage was filmed by Rhys Turner, quite a challenging one! We puchrased an underwater camera container, swimming fins and swam out to the ocean and filmed calm to stormy waves. Luckly Rhys was a strong swimmer. Trial and error, we managed to capture what we've envisioned.
This project is supported by Westfield and the City of Sydney Council.
